The opening frame was a tightly-contested battle that saw 9 lead changes and 2 ties, complete with a 63% Warriors team shooting effort from beyond-the-arc and a 15-point quarter from Henton. Santa Cruz jumped out to an early edge, but Rio Grande Valley re-claimed their advantage to attain a five-point edge heading into the second quarter.

The second period saw high-octane offensive efforts from both the Warriors (60 FG%) and the Vipers (60.7 FG%) though the Vipers would outscore Santa Cruz 44-35 in the frame to lead the visitors 78-62 at the break. Dennis Clifford scored 13 points of his 19 points in the second quarter, going 6-of-6 from the field.

Rio Grande Valley would extend their lead to 16 points on the first play of the third quarter before a scoring spurt from the Warriors capped by a lay-up from Dennis Clifford cut the visitors' deficit to 5 points. A 7-0 run propelled by the Vipers' Chris Johnson, who dunked and then had a block at the other end, helped shift momentum back to the hosts.

A lay-up from Cam Jones with 3:15 left in regulation would bring the Warriors within four points of the Vipers, marking the tightest score since the opening minutes of the game. The Vipers finished the game strong to keep the Warriors at bay en route to scoring a season-high 155 points in their victory.
