Columbus Wardogs News Release
Columbus, GA - Football coaches like to say that the "war is won in the trenches". If that's the case, then the Columbus Wardogs should be in good shape for the 2004 arenafootball2 (af2) season. Head coach John Fourcade has added a lot of beef to his training camp roster by signing 16 more players including eight "super-sized" linemen.
The group of lineman include Kenyatta Johnson (6'4, 330), a rookie from Eufaula who played at Alabama State and John Windham (6'4, 315), a rookie from Northwestern State in Louisiana. Also joining the team is defensive end Robert Malone (6'4, 285) who spent the 2002 season on the Baltimore Ravens practice squad.
You won't hear anyone ask "where's the beef?" when training camp begins March 17. Of the 22 players on Fourcade's roster, ten are lineman. The smallest is rookie Mike Schwebel who stands only 6'3 and weighs a mere 280 pounds.
Among the other players signed by the Wardogs is rookie receiver Troy Bergeron who was a star player for Shaw High School's 2000 state championship team.
Fourcade plans to sign 35 players for training camp before cutting down to 21 players for the regular season. The Wardogs will host Australia in an international exhibition game on March 28 before kicking-off the 2004 season on April 10 at Wilkes-Barre, PA.
