WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON: The TinCaps fell to the Quad Cities River Bandits, 7-1. Esteury Ruiz homered in the ninth for Fort Wayne's lone run.

ROSTER MOVES: Today the Padres transferred infielder Reinaldo Ilarraza to Extended Spring Training. Infielder Luis Almanzar joined the team from Extended. MLB.com rates Almanzar as the No. 26 prospect in San Diego's farm system. See page 3 for more notes.

TRENDING UP: Despite dropping 2 in a row, the TinCaps have won 7 of their last 13, including a 3-game sweep of Beloit last week. Fort Wayne is 14-13 since beginning the year 0-6. The 'Caps are 4-2-1 over their last 7 series.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY: Justin Lopez turned 18 on Wednesday. Lopez is the youngest player in the Midwest League. (Only Nationals infield prospect Luis Garcia, with Class A Hagerstown in the South Atlantic League, is younger in MiLB; Garcia turns 18 next Wednesday). Lopez, who was troubled by back tightness in April, had reached base in 6 consecutive games until Wednesday and had been leading the team in OPS this month. Over those 6 games, Lopez slashed .375/.423/.708 with a homer, 3 doubles, a triple, and 5 RBIs.

BACK IN THE FORT: The Parkview Sports Medicine High School Baseball Series continues today at Parkview Field with a doubleheader of games at 4:30 and 7. Southern Wells takes on Woodlan in Game 1 followed by Prairie Heights and Faifield. Today is the final day of 6 doubleheaders featuring 24 different area schools.

HOMECOMING TOUR: TinCaps hitting coach Jonathan Mathews is from Centerville, Iowa, which is about 3 hours southwest of . Mathews coached at Indian Hills Community College in Ottuma, Iowa, where he also taught economics from 2000-12. Previously, Mathews earned a master's in athletic administration in 2000 at the University of Iowa, where he was a part-time coach from 1995-96... Now he's no longer in his home state but back in Kane County where he was the hitting coach in 2016. Mathews joined the D-Backs organization in 2014, coaching in South Bend. After a season in High-A with Visalia he came to Kane County. Last year he was on San Diego's major league staff, working with the team's outfielders.

LEAGUE LEADERS: Jeisson Rosario is 1st runs in scored (26), 6th in OBP (.451), tied for 4th in walks (26), and tied for 10th in stolen bases (8)... Esteury Ruiz is tied for 2nd in triples (3) and tied for 7th in home runs (5)... Carlos Belen is tied for 9th in RBIs (21)... Nick Margevicius is tied for 2nd in the MWL in strikeouts with 44.

STREAKING: Juan Fernandez is on a 20-game on-base streak. That's tied for the 7th longest streak in the league so far this year. He's reached base in every game he's had a plate appearance... Jeisson Rosario had a 17-game on-base streak that began on April 15 end Tuesday.

YOUNGEST TEAM IN MiLB: The TinCaps feature the 4 youngest players in the league: Justin Lopez (18), Tirso Ornelas (18), Gabriel Arias (18), and Jeisson Rosario (18). Fort Wayne has 9 teenagers on its roster. According to Baseball America, the average age for a TinCaps player to start the year was 20.6. (The average age in the Midwest League was 22 years.)
