Thunder fall to division rival Firebirds

Albany, NY. -The Albany Firebirds took advantage of four Thunder first half turnovers, sending Mahoning Valley home with an xx-xx loss. Mahoning Valley quarterbacks combined to throw eleven interceptions, five of which were picked off by Albany's Alvin Ray Jackson- an af2 record. The loss is Mahoning Valley's 18th straight away from the Covelli Centre.

Alvin Ray Jackson was a one man wrecking crew for the Firebirds. The third year player out of Albany State was a consistent playmaker on both sides of the ball. Jackson intercepted an af2 record five passes including one of which was returned 53 yards for a score. Offensively, Jackson added another two receiving touchdowns.

Quarterback Brad Roach made his first career start for the Thunder but was quickly replaced after throwing interceptions on the first two Thunder possessions. Davon Vinson replaced Roach but didn't fare any better, throwing a franchise record seven interceptions. Vinson did throw for two scores raising his season total to 19. C.J. Brewer led the Thunder receiving corps with two scores.

Albany's offense was paced by signal caller Stephen Wasil who connected for six scores. Christian Wise and Jackson each caught two touchdown passes, with Jared Jones adding a score of his own. Overall Mahoning Valley turned the ball over eleven times compared to three Firebirds turnovers. With the victory Albany secured a season series win over the Thunder taking two of three games.

Mahoning Valley returns home next to Cortland Banks Field inside of the Covelli Centre next Friday night. The Thunder will be hosting division rival Manchester. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
