April 26, 2016 - NBA G League (G League)
Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Skyforce (1-1) fell to the Los Angeles D-Fenders (1-1) in game two, evening the NBA Development League Finals series at one game apiece. The game marked the first loss of the 2016 postseason for the Skyforce, while the D-Fenders will play in their third consecutive three-game series.
Los Angeles held the momentum for much of the first quarter, leading by as many as 11 points early on. Sioux Falls managed to cut the deficit to just one point after the first 12 minutes behind contributions from DeAndre Liggins (15 points, 10 rebounds, six assists) and Rodney McGruder (15 points, six rebounds, five assists), who scored 15 of the Skyforce's 26 points in the quarter.
Sioux Falls took its first lead of the night on a three-point basket from Toure' Murry (16 points, four assists) with just five seconds left in the first half, and ended leading 53-52 at the break. Greg Whittington (17 points, seven rebounds) came off the bench to score nine points in the second quarter, and scored 14 of his 17 total points in the first half.
The Skyforce led by as many as six points in the third quarter, but the D-Fenders had an answer to every big basket, never letting the momentum shift in the home-team's favor. Vander Blue (29 points) led the way offensively as the five Los Angeles starters combined to score 104 of the team's 109 total points. Ryan Gomes (18 points, 11 rebounds) and Josh Magette (16 points, 10 assists) each recorded double-doubles in the win for the D-Fenders.
Much of the D-Fender's success centered on bottling up Jarnell Stokes (10 points, six rebounds), a normally high-powered presence in the post for Sioux Falls. Stokes was perfect from the field, but only managed four shot attempts in the contest.
The Skyforce saw six total players score in double figures, but their attempts to retake the lead in the final minutes were thwarted by five quick points from the D-Fender's Gomes in back-to-back possessions, ultimately resulting in the 109-102 loss for Sioux Falls.
Having previously won two CBA Championships on the road, Sioux Falls will again look to win their first NBA Development League Championship, and first championship on their home floor, in tomorrow night's third and final matchup with Los Angeles.
