Modesto Nuts News Release
Modesto, CA. - A seven-run eighth inning sent the Modesto Nuts to an 8-5 loss against the Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino on Sunday evening at John Thurman Field.
Carrying a four-run lead into the eighth, things started well when Matt Walker struck out back-to-back hitters to begin the inning. Walker then surrendered a walk and two singles to load the bases before being taken out for Lukas Shiraldi (L, 2-1).
Brennon Lund lined a two-run single into center to start the scoring. Shiraldi would walk the next four straight 66ers (45-49; 15-9) while issuing three run-scoring wild pitches. The seven-run eighth was capped when Connor Justus lined a RBI single into right. All seven runs scored with two outs.
The long ball helped the Nuts (53-40; 14-10) build the lead early. Kevin Santa launched a two-run homer in the second. Luis Liberato lifted a solo home run in the fifth. Eric Filia drove in two runs with a pair of sac flies. Willie Argo went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored.
Samil De Los Santos (W, 3-1) worked the final three innings without giving up a run and allowing just one hit with three walks and two strikeouts.
