Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
(Wilkes-Barre) The af2 announced today that Pioneers Wide Receiver/ Linebacker Rich Musinski has been named the JLS Ironman of the Week.
The Wyoming Area standout had a solid all-around effort for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the team's 77-49 home win against Tennessee Valley. The rookie from William & Mary was a factor on both sides of the ball to help the No. 3-ranked Pioneers win their 17th straight game at Wachovia Arena dating back to 2006. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's current home win streak is the second longest in league history.
The Pioneers' Week 12 victory also snapped the No. 5-ranked Vipers' seven-game win streak. Offensively, Musinski lined up at wide receiver and caught the first touchdown of the contest earning himself the Cutters Catch of the Game when the ball bounced off of Pioneers receiver JJ Outlaw and into Musinski's grasp.
He was also a factor on defense with three solo tackles and a 34-yard fumble return touchdown. This is the first weekly af2 award of Musinski's career. He currently leads the team in receiving touchdowns (19) and ranks second on the squad in receiving yards (738) and third in receptions (53). Musinski has also accumulated 25 tackles and two fumble recoveries on defense.
Ryan Vena has already compiled two Schutt Offensive Player of the Week awards this season (week 5 and week 8) and Larry Kendrick has been named the JLS Ironman of the Week twice this season as well (week 4 and week 7).
The Pioneers will try and make it 18 straight at home and clinch the American Conference Eastern division when they take on the Manchester Wolves Saturday night at 7:30pm at the Wachovia Arena. The Wolves upset the Pioneers in Week 10 with a 70-63 victory in Manchester. The Pioneers will look for revenge in the grudge match between the two and also guarantee themselves a home playoff game with a win. Children 12 and under who com early will also receive a Pete the Pioneer bobblehead doll. For tickets visit the Wachovia Arena box office, call the Pioneers at 970-4232 or visit www.wbspioneers.com.
