Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, TEXAS Rivalries are alive with the Amarillo Dusters. The Dusters have both in-state and out-of-state rivals with the Lubbock Renegades and the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. The Yard Dawgz and the Dusters represent the Battle of I-40. This weekend, Amarillo will take part in the Battle of I-27 with Lubbock.
This will be the second of three games between the two teams this season. Amarillo and Lubbock will be competing for the new traveling Advanced Graphics Battle of I-27 trophy.
"The team that wins the series will get to keep the trophy until the next season," vice president Joe Morgado said.
The trophy will be at the game this Saturday when the Dusters take on the Renegades. A Lubbock victory could give the Renegades the trophy and bragging rights for the year. If the Dusters win, the deciding game will be on July 21 in Amarillo.
"Healthy rivalries are good," head coach Chris MacKeown said. "It's fun for the fans, boosts the games for both teams, and gives the guys a little something extra to fight for and be proud about." MacKeown expressed that it doesn't put any extra pressure on the game itself.
"We know we have to play a great game in order to win," MacKeown said. "We need to do that regardless of whether there is a trophy to win or not."
The Dusters will return home on June 28 to take on the Tulsa Talons. Tickets
start at just $16 and are on sale now. To reserve the best seats, call the
