Rome Renegades News Release
9:45 Thursday night. Word of Canton's big win over Reading was spreading like wildfire from Atlanta to Fairburn, up through Carrollton and into Rome. Beat the Raleigh Rebels Monday night and have an opportunity to bring a national football championship game to Rome !
Center Reggie Poole was first on the phone to Head Coach David Humphreys. "Hey Coach, Canton won". Don't be fooled, while the Renegades are excited about the chance to host a title game. They know that Raleigh stands squarely in the way. They also know what happened to Reading. Head Coach David Humphreys and assistant Scott Hines, J.J. Owens and Greg Cater are not about to let the Renegades look past Raleigh. After all, Raleigh beat Rome a month ago, The Renegades haven't forgotten that night in the Dorton Arena.
Rome and Raleigh split their regular season series, both winning in their home arenas. Rome won May 5th in Rome, 56-43 while Raleigh held home turf May 25th 30-22. Rome is on a 12 game home winning streak, the Renegades last loss in the Forum was on May 20th of 2005 to the Lakeland Thunderbolts, a loss that was avenged in the first round of the NIFL play-offs last year.
Having an opportunity play in a national championship game is one thing, having a chance to host that game is an opportunity that the Renegades want very much. The Renegades took the rubber match in the series with Chattahoochee Valley last week, now there's this matter of getting up on Raleigh. Should that happen, there's a chance to make championship dreams come true. Not just for the Renegades, but for the entire Rome community.
