Published on June 23, 2006 under American Indoor Football Association (AIFA) News Release
DANVILLE, Ill. - American Indoor Football League President Andrew G. Haines and Executive Director Gary Tufford announced the first expansion team for the 2007 season will be located in Danville, Ill. The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday, June 19 at a press conference at the David S. Palmer Arena.
"We're moving westward as we continue to become a national league," Haines said. "Danville will be our bridge into the Midwest."
The deal has been concluded with the David S. Palmer Arena, which seats 2,400. Tickets will range from $7 to $25. The league will pay a base rent each month for set-up. A head coach will be named shortly and tryouts will commence after that.
The Danville Days Inn and Conference Center and Nextel, through local provider Satellite Cable and Cellular, are onboard as sponsors.
The league will own the team until a buyer comes forward.
"Whether we get an owner or not, there's football here," Haines said. "The more local flavor we have, the better," he said. "We want to keep as many local ties as we can."
