Tupelo Targeted For Second 2007 AIFL Expansion Team

TUPELO, MS -- American Indoor Football League President Andrew G. Haines and Excecutive Director Gary Tufford announced Tuesday that the second expansion team in 2007 will be located in Tupelo, Miss. The announcement was made at the BancorpSouth Center with city officials in attendance.

For the first year, the AIFL will run the organization, making all key decisions on and off the field. By this time next year, though, Haines said he hopes an ownership group will come forward and purchase the team.

"We feel this is going to be a great addition to our community," said David Skinner, director of the BancorpSouth Center.

Noting that previous pro teams haven't left favorable impressions with most fans, the team will offer former Tupelo pro sports season ticket holders the opportunity to purchase packages for just $50 the first year.

"We want as much local influence as possible," Haines said. "That will be the key to success."

A community-wide contest to name the mascot, with the winner receiving season tickets for life.

Prices will range from $5 to $25, while the schedule will feature seven home dates.
