Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Tennessee Valley Raptors coach Dick Adams has signed a pair of players as his team continues its preparations for the final two games of the regular season.
The Raptors have added quarterback Ben Sankey, a former Wake Forest standout who led the Calgary Stampeders to the 2001 Grey Cup title, and ex-Vanderbilt wide receiver Chris Young.
"It's been no secret that we've needed a backup quarterback for the last few games and Ben brings in plenty of experience and ability,'' Adams said. "Chris was an impact player at Vandy and I'm looking forward to seeing him in action."
Sankey (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) served as the backup quarterback in Hamilton during the 2004-05 Canadian Football League season and spent 2002 on the Houston Texans' practice squad. In 2001, he threw for over 2,000 yards and 15 touchdowns while pacing Calgary. As a senior at Wake Forest in 1999, he threw for almost 2,000 yards and nine touchdowns and was named the Most Valuable Player of the Aloha Bowl.
Young (6-1, 190) had 10 receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown as a senior in 2004 and had a career-high 15 receptions for 202 yards and a score in '03. For his career, he had 44 catches for 500 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
