UIF announces Week 16 awards
July 7, 2005 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF) News Release
Omaha, NE - Bryant, Hilliard, and Retzlaff earn league honors after suburb performances last week. United Indoor Football is proud to announce Players-of-the-Week awards for Week 16 of the 2005 season. Weekly awards are presented in three categories: Offense, Defense, and Special Teams.
Week 16 Offensive Player-of-the-Week is Sioux Falls quarterback Terrance Bryant. The Storm offensive leader completed 20 of 30 passes for 219 yards in a 49-44 loss to the Omaha Beef last week. The 6'2", 215 pound Oregon State University graduate threw four touchdown passes with no interceptions to keep the Storm in the game. Bryant also recorded 20 yards on four carries. This is the second weekly award for Bryant, as he also earned the Offensive Player-of-the-Week honor in Week 4. Bryant and the Storm host the Black Hills Red Dogs on Saturday, July 9.
Sean Hilliard of Tennessee Valley was strong again on defense for the Raptors last Saturday night. Hilliard earns the UIF Week 16 Defensive Player-of-the-Week award after leading the Raptors to a 45-33 victory over the Ohio Valley Greyhounds last week. The 6'1", 205 pound defensiveback returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown and reached the end zone on a 10-yard fumble recovery early in the game. The Cumberland University graduate was also credited with four solo tackles and five tackle assists on the evening. Hilliard and the Raptors entertain the Tupelo FireAnts on Saturday, July 9.
Wrapping up the Week 16 awards in the Special Teams category is Omaha kicker Ted Retzlaff. Retzlaff scored 15 points in the Beef's win over the Sioux Falls Storm. He was a perfect five for five on point after attempts and was four for five on field goals, including kicks of 18, 34, 27, and 26 yards. Retzlaff's huge kicking game solidified the Beef's second-place standing in the North Division and increased Omaha's chances of hosting a first-found play-off game. This is the second weekly award for the 5'11", 200 pound University of Nebraska graduate. He also earned the honor in Week 13. Retzlaff and the Beef host Interstate 29 and North Division rival Sioux City Bandits on Saturday, July 9.
League MVP's and coaching awards will be handed out at the end of the 2005 UIF season. Stay tuned weekly for additional Players-of-the-Week winners and game highlights. For all team rosters, statistics, scores, highlights and more log onto www.unitedindoorfootball.com.
