Evansville looks to sweep Lexington
July 7, 2005 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Evansville BlueCats News Release
This Saturday night, the Evansville BlueCats will travel to Rupp Arena in Lexington, KY to take on the Lexington Horseman and wrap up the season series between the two teams. Lexington currently sits in first place, two games ahead of Evansville in the UIF South Division. Earlier this year, the BlueCats claimed a 57-52 victory over the Horsemen on April 2nd at Roberts Stadium.
The playoff bound Evansville BlueCats will try to keep their division title hopes alive against rival Lexington. With two games remaining in the season for both teams, Evansville still has a chance to claim a share of the division title. Should the BlueCats win their last two games against Lexington and Peoria, and if Lexington loses to Tupelo in their season finale, Evansville and Lexington would finish in a tie for first place in the UIF South Division. By sweeping the regular season series against the Horsemen, Evansville would hold the head-to-head tiebreaker in any division championship and playoff seeding scenarios, and thus, giving the 2005 UIF South Division title to the Evansville BlueCats.
Last weekend, the BlueCats defeated the Tupelo FireAnts 48-25 at Roberts Stadium. The win locked up the first ever playoff appearance in Evansville's history. If the playoffs started today, Evansville would be the #5 seed in the UIF's 8 team playoff format. The BlueCats still have a chance at a seed as high as #3 and a first round home playoff game.
Lexington was idle last weekend. Their last game was on June 25th when they defeated the Tennessee Valley Raptors 59-35 at Rupp Arena.
