RailCats Acquire Infielder Diaz in Deal

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced the acquiring of infielder Luis Diaz from the Winnipeg Goldeyes on Friday to partially complete a trade from August 10th that sent right-handed pitcher Charle Rosario to the Goldeyes for right-handed pitcher Daniel Minor, four players to be named later and cash considerations.

Diaz began his professional baseball career with the Joliet Slammers of the Frontier League last season, hitting .235 with 12 extra-base hits, 15 RBIs and two stolen bases in 32 games. The rookie infielder also scored 19 runs, drew 13 walks and finished with a .318 on-base percentage.

Diaz was a four-year starter at Southeastern University (Fla.) prior to beginning his pro career. As a senior in 2017, Diaz was a First Team NAIA All-American after hitting .415 with a nation-high 12 triples, 21 doubles, nine home runs and 57 RBIs. Diaz started 219 games over his four-year career and is the school's career leader in triples (24) and is the school's single-season leader in hits (100), runs (81), total bases (172), triples (12) and at bats (241).
