Raiders Give Nashville a Taste of Their Own Venom

RICHMOND, Va. (June 6, 2015) - The Richmond Raiders (7-4) defeated the Nashville Venom (5-4) in decisive fashion Saturday night at the Richmond Coliseum. Richmond won 53-30, extending their win streak to five and advancing them into second place in PIFL standings. This win came after a midseason loss to Nashville, which saw the Raiders fall 69-49. That was the Raiders' last loss, and the team has been red-hot since.

In the first half, the Raiders allowed the Venom to remain close, trading scores throughout. However, Richmond would come out firing on all cylinders in the second half as they held Nashville scoreless in the third quarter. The Raiders were unstoppable, with Daron Clark even recording a 53-yard kickoff return. Then, to kick off the fourth quarter, big man James Carter rumbled his way into the endzone, putting the game just out of reach for the Venom. Richmond's defense dominated throughout the game, only allowing a total of four touchdowns, while recording six sacks for a loss of 28 yards. Not to be outdone, the Raiders offense racked up an impressive 240 yards, as well.

QB Jonathan Bane completed 19 of 34 passes for 242 yards and five touchdowns. Bane would also call his own number once, as he scampered in for another touchdown. A host of Raiders found the endzone, as four other Raiders players scored. WR Robert Holland, WR Ron Davis, WR Daron Clark (3) and lineman James Carter rounded out the scoring for the team. Holland had 10 catches for 106 yards, and Clark recorded an impressive two catches for 60 yards.

For Nashville, QB Charles McCullum threw for 255 yards and three touchdowns, while completing 21 of 38 passes. He was able to hit WR Jordan Jolly twice and WR Dontel Watkins once for touchdowns. Lineman Stan Bradley ran for another touchdown.

The Raiders are next in action on Saturday, June 20 as they return to the Richmond Coliseum to face off against the Erie Explosion for "Three Cheers for Dads" Day.
