
Prevost Pitches Mets to 2-0 Win at Lakeland

LAKELAND, Fla. - Josh Prevost pitched the game of his life on Friday in a 2-0 win for the St. Lucie Mets over the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium.
Prevost tossed a complete game one-hit shutout. He faced the minimum amount of hitters (27). He retired 26 straight batters to finish the game.
Cam Gibson started the bottom of the first with an opposite field single. Prevost then struck out Daz Cameron and got Isaac Paredes to line out to center field. Gibson was then caught stealing second by catcher Dan Rizzie to end the first.
It was three up, three down for Prevost the rest of the game. He struck out a season-high nine batters, including Cameron three times. He fanned Zac Shepherd to end the game.
Prevost, a 6-foot-7 righty from New Jersey, only need 97 pitches for his complete game. He became the first St. Lucie pitcher this year to go the distance.
The Mets scored both of their runs in the sixth inning. Ian Strom and Gene Cone began the frame with singles. Andres Gimenez lifted a RBI sac fly and Michael Paez ripped a RBI single to make it 2-0.
Strom went 3 for 4 with a double. Cone went 3 for 5. Rizzie collected two hits.
Lakeland starter Spenser Watkins took a tough loss. He allowed both runs in seven innings and struck out seven. He was perfect through the first three innings.
The Mets (24-31) and Flying Tigers (31-29) play the middle game of their series at Joker Marchant Stadium on Saturday at 6 p.m.
