
Mavericks Reassign Center A.J. Hammons to the Texas Legends

DALLAS - The Dallas Mavericks announced today that they have reassigned rookie center A.J. Hammons to the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League.
Hammons (7-0, 250) has appeared in seven for the Mavericks this season, averaging 1.3 points and 1.1 rebounds in 3.4 minutes.
Hammons started at center for the Legends in their 2016-17 season opener against the Maine Red Claws on Nov. 12 and produced 16 points, six rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes. He did not miss a shot in the contest, going a perfect 7-of-7 from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line.
A native of Gary, Ind., Hammons played four seasons with the Purdue Boilermakers and earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-Big Ten and honorable mention All-America as a senior. In his final season, he averaged 15.0 points, 8.2 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.1 assists while shooting 59.2 percent from the floor.
The Mavericks made Hammons the 46th overall selection in the 2016 NBA Draft.
Hammons will join the Legends and be available for their game tonight against the Salt Lake City Stars at Dr Pepper Arena in Frisco. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m. CT.
