Lubbock Renegades News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: November 26, 2007 - The arenafootball2 (af2) released their 2008 schedule and the Lubbock Renegades will open the season on the road against the Austin Wranglers on April 5th before coming home for their home opener scheduled for April 12th against the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz at City Bank Coliseum.
The season opener in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center will not only be the first meeting between the two teams but it kicks the Wranglers off into af2 play. The Wranglers spent the four prior seasons in the Arena Football League and are a new addition in the af2 for the season, joining the Daytona Beach ThunderBirds and the Lexington Horsemen as new additions in the 29-team af2. Lubbock's home opener is scheduled the following week (April 12th), as they battle Oklahoma City in a divisional contest.
The Renegades schedule consists of 16 games, split between eight home and eight road games, and also containing nine divisional contests. Lubbock remains in the difficult Central Division of the National Conference, along with the Amarillo Dusters, Arkansas Twisters, Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz and the Tulsa Talons for the 2008 season. The Renegades will face each of their division opponents twice, except for Amarillo, as the I-27 battle will have the two teams face each other three times during the regular season. Lubbock's schedule has several challenges. From April 12 - May 3rd, the Renegades will play four consecutive home games with April 26th and May 3rd consisting of consecutive games against defending af2 Champions. Tulsa won the af2 title last season and will come to Lubbock on April 26th, while the Spokane Shock, who won the title in 2006, will make their first ever trip to Lubbock on May 3rd. Spokane joins Austin and Rio Grande Valley on the home portion of the schedule that have never made a prior appearance in Lubbock. The Renegades round out their schedule by playing five of their final seven games on the road, including their final two games. The regular season comes to a close on July 26th, as the Renegades trek south to face the Rio Grande Valley Dorados in Hidalgo, Texas.
Lubbock will continue to play all their home games at City Bank Coliseum, with kickoffs for each home game set for 7 p.m. The Renegades will release their promotional schedule at a later date.
