Great Lakes Loons News Release

South Bend, IN - The Great Lakes Loons scored seven runs in the fourth inning but had to hang on in the ninth for a wild 10-9 victory over the South Bend Silverhawks.

The Loons scored their seven runs in the fourth inning on eight hits and four South Bend errors. The Silverhawks committed a total of six errors in the game. The big hit of the fourth was a bases-clearing triple by Eduardo Perez.

Juan Apodaca hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth that proved relevant to the outcome.

Leading 10-4, Yulkin German entered out of the bullpen and surrendered four straight singles with one out, a walk and another single and was relieved by Miguel Ramirez, who induced two ground balls to shortstop to end the game. German was tagged for five runs in a third of an inning.

Ramirez saved it for Clayton Kershaw (6-2), who allowed an earned run in five innings.

Offensive heroes were plentiful for the Loons. Preston Mattingly recorded four hits. Eduardo Perez had a home run, a triple and four RBIs. Apodaca drove in three and had the ninth-inning homer. Justin Fuller and Bridger Hunt added three hits apiece.

The series continues Monday from South Bend. Game time is 7pm ET. Play-by-play coverage is available on the Loons' radio home, 100.9-FM WYLZ, and online at Loons.com.
