Texas Legends News Release
CEDAR PARK, TX, - The Texas Legends (5-5) took a 2-0 lead on the season series against the Austin Spurs (8-4) with a 111-102 victory led forcefully by the team's three big men.
Johnathan Motley opened the game with a 10-point performance to give Texas control late in the first. The ball went cold on both ends in the second with each team hitting only eight field goals apiece. The Spurs evened the score twice but Texas never relinquished the lead, taking an 8-point advantage into the locker room. Motley matched his first quarter points in the third, leading the Legends to their largest edge of the night up 15. The Spurs cut the deficit to seven with under a minute on the clock, but Brandon Ashley completed 2-2 at the free throw line to seal the Legends victory.
The two teams struggled from the perimeter with Texas hitting a season-low 4-of-16 outside shots. The visiting bigs dominated the boards 48-43 but Austin had five players combine to block seven shots. Motley finished with a game-high 28 points along with 6 rebounds while Ashley led all with 13 rebounds to add to his 18 points. Jameel Warney grabbed the game's other double-double with 24 points, 11 rebounds and Justin Dentmon rounded off the Legends' double-digit scoring with 19 points and a game-high 4 steals.
