Macon Knights News Release
MACON, Ga. - The Knights Hosea Laney and Lionel Hayes have set new single season records in tackles and passing yards respectively. The single season record for tackles was held by Denario Smalls and was set in 2003 with 80 tackles on the season. John Rayborn held the passing yards record with 3,230 set in 2002.
Laney broke the tackles record July 9th against the Birmingham Steeldogs. Since that game, Laney has boosted his tackles record to 96 on the season with two games left to play. Against the Arkansas Twisters Hosea Laney was half a tackle short of tying the single game tackles record of 10 set by Denario Smalls as well.
Lionel Hayes entered last week's game against the Arkansas Twisters just 71 yards shy of tying the passing yards record held by John Rayborn. Hayes surpassed the record on his second touchdown pass of the first quarter when he connected with James Hickenbotham for a 37 yard touchdown pass. He finished blowing past the previous record of 3,230 yards and finished the night with 3,490 yards passing on the season.
The Knights will see how many yards and tackles these two players can put up to challenge the next group of Knights.
The Knights have one more regular season home game this Saturday, July 23rd against in-state rival South Georgia Wildcats. The Knights are offering special group rates in the Throne and Armory sections. Call 314-3000 to reserve your tickets today.
