Portland, Maine - The Hartford Yard Goats (48-49) defeated the Portland Sea Dogs (40-58), 4-1 on Saturday night at Hadlock Field. Portland seeks the series win on Sunday afternoon.
Righty Rico Garcia (3-0) fired five scoreless innings on three hits, four walks, and three strikeouts to earn the win. Hartford used five pitchers on the night to secure their first win of the series.
Kyle Hart (6-7) suffered the loss for Portland, giving up just two runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings pitched. Hart fanned six and walked only two.
Hartford took an early lead on a sacrifice fly in the in the first inning by Brian Mundell. The Yard Goats added their second run off Hart in the third inning on a run-scoring groundout by Brendan Rodgers.
Trey Ball took over the eighth and yielded an RBI double to Yonathan Daza. The Sea Dogs scored their lone run in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Luke Tendler.
Hartford scored the final run of the game in the ninth inning on a two-out homer by Forrest Wall off Travis Lakins.
Matt Pierpont pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his league-leading 26th save of the season. Deiner Lopez had a season-high three hits for Portland.
The Sea Dogs and Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies affiliate) meet for the final time in 2018 on Sunday afternoon with a 1:00 PM start at Hadlock Field. Lefty Dedgar Jimenez (5-6, 5.38) takes on Lefty Sean Nolin (2-2, 6.14). Sunday is Princess and Pirate Day at Hadlock Field with tickets available at seadogs.com or 207-879-9500.
