Gladiators Fling-A-Football for charity

The Las Vegas Gladiators have dedicated itself to doing significant work in the community through various presentations, camps, visits, and acts of volunteerism. A favorite community-minded activity in a partnership with Findlay Toyota has been the game day promotion, Fling-A-Football. It is as simple as $1 for a chance to win a new car. Fans can purchase a mini football on game days and then at half time attempt to throw the ball into the sunroof of the Findlay Toyota parked at mid-field for a chance to win that vehicle at the end of the season.
The recipient of this years promotion will be the men and women of law enforcement through the Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF). The charitable donation will be made at the end of the season and so far the promotion has raised over a $1,000 in its first two home games.
Each home game presents an opportunity to receive a chance to win the car but the true beauty of this promotion comes from the financial assistance provided to needy charities by the Las Vegas Gladiators and Findlay Toyota.
The first season for the Fling A Football campaign began in 2005, with proceeds going to The After School All Stars followed by Positively Kids in 2006. Each organization was presented a check at the last game of the season to show fans community activity and appreciation.
The History of the Injured Police Officers Fund
The IPOF is comprised of sworn law enforcement officers from member agencies such as: Las Vegas Metro; North Las Vegas; Mesquite; Boulder City; Henderson; UNLV; Clark County School District; Clark County Park ; Nevada Highway Patrol; and, the City of Las Vegas Police Departments. Each agency has one primary and one alternate representative in the IPOF. These officers volunteer their time and are appointed by the Chief of Police of their agency, or in the case of LVMPD Officers, the Sheriff of Clark County. The Injured Police Officers Fund (IPOF) was formed in October of 1982 when LVMPD Motor Officer James Mac Laren was shot in the head during a traffic stop. Officer Mac Laren survived his injuries but was forced into medical retirement. The IPOF assists with expenses that are not covered by insurance in the event of a serious injury or death in the line of duty. These expenses may include, but are not limited to, reimbursement for equipment damaged, childcare expenses not normally incurred and other expenses on a case by case basis.
The Las Vegas Gladiators became aware and reached out to the IPOF after the tragic death of Sgt. Henry Prendes, a 14-year veteran of Las Vegas Metro gunned down in February 2006, while answering a domestic violence call.
