ALTOONA, PA -- Jeff Hendrix had four hits and a walk and the Thunder bullpen retired all nine men they faced as Trenton earned a 6-5 win over the Curve on Friday night at Peoples Natural Gas Field.
The Thunder offense accumulated all of their runs in the second and fifth innings on Friday. A pair of runs crossed in the second when Francisco Diaz, Rashad Crawford and Hendrix each recorded hits. Hendrix's double was his first extra base hit in Double-A and pushed the Thunder to the early 2-0 advantage in support of Brody Koerner. In the fifth, Hendrix, Nick Solak and Thairo Estrada each singled to load the bases with one out. Mike Ford singled home a run and after a sac fly from Ryan McBroom, Zack Zehner plated two more to make it 6-1 Thunder.
Brody Koerner retired the first seven men he faced and didn't allow a hit until there were two outs in the fourth. The Curve rallied from the 6-1 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fifth when Anderson Feliz tripled in three runs with a shot to left-center. Altoona drew a run closer in the sixth when Wyatt Mathieson hit a solo home run to make it 6-5.
Koerner avoided further trouble and finished his outing with an exclamation point; striking out his seventh batter to finish the sixth. Anyelo Gomez and Cale Coshow set down the final nine Curve batters in the game with four strikeouts to earn the win.
Zehner extended his hit streak to eight games in the victory, Ford and Solak added two-hit games to pace a 13-hit outburst for the Thunder offense.
