LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado netted a pair of shorthanded goals en route to the team's 14th consecutive victory in a 5-3 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday. Forwards Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Shawn St-Amant each collected a goal and an assist, while goaltender Lukas Hafner stopped 28 of the 31 shots thrown his way in the contest.

Colorado would grab an early foothold in the contest when a 3-on-2 rush down the ice led to Pierro-Zabotel placing a drop pass onto the tape of defenseman Jake Marto who would power the puck past Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead just 3:01 into the contest.

Heading into the second period, the Eagles would stretch their lead on the penalty kill when Pierro-Zabotel forced a turnover at the Colorado blue line, springing a 2-on-1 rush and capping it off with a wrist shot that lit the lamp and grew the Eagles lead to 2-0 at the 5:13 mark of the middle frame.

Just 42 seconds later and with Utah still on the man-advantage, forward Ralph Cuddemi would fire a shot from between the circles that would beat Hafner and cut the Colorado lead to 2-1. Only 44 seconds after the Cuddemi tally, defenseman Erik Higby would one-time a cross slot pass into the back of the net to knot the game at 2-2.

The Eagles would strike back when forward Jackson Houck created a turnover on a penalty kill, launching the rookie winger onto a breakaway. Houck would be hauled down from behind by Higby, leading to a penalty shot attempt. Houck would slice through the left circle and beat Faragher top-shelf on the penalty shot to give Colorado the 3-2 lead at the 13:08 mark of the second period.

Eagles forward Ryan Harrison would push the lead to two goals when he drove in a one-timer on the side of the cage with only 2:46 remaining in the second period to grow the Colorado advantage to 4-2. Fellow forward Matt Garbowsky claimed the assist on the goal, extending his point streak to 14 straight games.

St-Amant would put the Eagles up 5-2 with a power-play goal in the low slot at the 9:08 mark of the final frame. The goal was assisted by forward Johnny Lazo who made his return to the ice after missing the previous 52 games after suffering an injury in mid-October.

Utah would add one more mark on the scoreboard when Higby snapped home a rebound in the low slot with just 1:54 remaining in regulation to cut the Eagles lead to 5-3. The Grizzlies would pull Faragher in favor of the extra attacker, but would come no closer as the Eagles held on for the 5-3 victory.

The Eagles continue their eight-game home stand when they take on the Utah Grizzlies on Saturday, February 25th at 7:05pm MT at the Budweiser Events Center.
