Auburn Doubledays News Release

AUBURN, N.Y. - The Auburn Dobledays (2-0) began the home portion of their 2012 schedule on Tuesday night the same way they began the road portion of their schedule on Monday night, with a one-run win over the Batavia Muckdogs (0-2).

This time it was Batavia that took the initial lead in the top of the first on an RBI double by DH Jacob Wilson. Just as Batavia did a night ago, the Doubledays answered right back with a three spot in the bottom of the inning thanks to a three-run homer off the bat of DH Brandon Miller. It was the second homer in as many nights for Miller.

Catcher Jesus Montero answered Miller's homerun with a long ball of his own in the second inning, but his was a solo shot to bring the Muckdogs to within a run, 3-2. Montero homered again to leadoff the top of the sixth, as part of a 4 for 5 night at the dish after a perfect 3 for 3 night at the plate on Monday.

The teams battled back and forth for the majority of the game, but it was a sacrifice fly by Doubledays 3B Khayyan Norfork that put Auburn ahead for good in the bottom of the seventh. Miller had led off the inning with a walk, and he scored the go-ahead run on Norfork's deep fly ball to left.

LHP Gregory Baez got the start for Auburn and he went four innings, surrendering five runs (all earned) on nine hits, while walking one and striking out two. Getting the win for Auburn was RHP Travis Henke (1-0), who pitched 2.1 innings without giving up a run. RHP Richie Mirowski came on to pitch a scoreless ninth to earn his first save of the season.

Taking the loss for Batavia was RHP Corey Baker (0-1), who gave up one earned run in two innings of work. Muckdogs starter LHP Tyler Melling worked 4.1 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits. Batavia out hit Auburn 15-9, but the Muckdogs committed three errors while the Doubledays were errorless a night after committing three errors themselves.

These two teams will battle again Wednesday night in Batavia when the Doubledays will send LHP Blake Monar (0-0) to the mound. He will square off against RHP Joe Cuda (0-0) for Batavia. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
