NYPL Mahoning Valley Scrappers

Three Scrappers errors lead to first loss of season

June 19, 2012 - New York-Penn League (NYPL)
Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Juan Romero connected for his third homerun in the first two games of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Scrappers fell in Jamestown by a final score of 3-1. Romero's homer couldn't overcome three errors by the defense. Jamestown took the lead in the 4th inning and never looked back.

Jake Sisco made his first start of the year and went 3.2 innings while allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 2. Sisco worked out of trouble in each of the first three innings, but was unable to escape again in the 4th. Kentrell DeWitt doubled to start the inning. Brice Dice followed with a single, sending DeWitt to third. Sharif Othman's basehit scored DeWitt and Dice would then score on a RBI groundout by Yefri Perez.

The Scrappers were paced offensively by Juan Romero for the second night in a row. Romero connected on his 3rd homer, a towering drive over the lights in leftfield, to lead off the 3rd inning. Mahoning Valley could only manage two more hits the rest of the way. Mitch Nilsson had a single and Aaron Siliga had a base hit as well.

The Scrappers return to Eastwood Field tomorrow night to battle the Jammers once again for the Home Opener. Come out the ballgame and cheer the Scrappers on to victory. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
