Arkansas Diamonds News Release

With four seconds left Darren Brown drilled a twenty-one yard field goal to give the Austin Turfcats their first win of the year 31-29 over the Arkansas Diamonds. The game had its share of momentum swings, but in the end, it was the Turfcats that scored the winning points.

With thirty-two seconds left in the game, the Diamonds completed what looked to be a game-winning touchdown drive when quarterback David Knighton found Coco Blaylock in the front corner of the end zone to give the home team a 29-28 lead.

The Diamonds started fast when quarterback Willie Copeland tossed a forty-four yard touchdown pass to Blaylock. The Diamonds followed with another touchdown getting the early 14-0 lead. The Turfcats battled back to close the gap to 14-10 at halftime.

The third quarter belonged to the Turfcats. The Turfcats scored 18 unanswered points to take a 28-14 lead. However, the Diamonds countered by kicking a field goal and scoring two touchdowns to take a 29-28 lead with 32 seconds left.

The Turfcats were led by quarterback Rico Watson who tossed two touchdown passes and ran for two more. The win gives Austin their first win of the season. The Turfcats, like the Diamonds, are new members of the Indoor Football League coming over from the Southern Indoor Football League.

The Diamonds were led on offense by Coco Blaylock. Blaylock had 91 yards receiving and two touchdowns and was named Offensive Player of the Game by the Diamonds. Tyler Knight led the Diamonds on defense with a total of 15 tackles including 2.5 sacks for minus two yards. For his efforts, the Diamonds named Knight Defensive Player of the Game.

The loss drops the Diamonds to 2-1 on the season. The Diamonds will be back in action next week in Verizon Arena in North Little Rock taking on the Abilene Ruff Riders at 7:05 p.m.
