Defenseman Joey Leach Recalled to Hershey

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that defenseman Joey Leach has been recalled by the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Hershey Bears. The Bears are in the Eastern Conference Finals and have a chance to advance to the Calder Cup Finals with a victory today in Game 5 of the series at Toronto.
Leach, who was the AMI Graphics Plus Performer of the Year in the ECHL with a +40 rating, skated in 58 games for South Carolina this season, posting 17 points (6 goals, 11 assists) to go along with 122 penalty minutes. He served as an alternate captain for the Stingrays, and helped the club to a 44-18-7-3 record and the South Division title. Leach was a +22 in the final 20 games of the season, and posted an even or better rating in 50 games this season.
In the playoffs, Leach appeared in 19 games for the Stingrays, posting five points (two goals, three assists) and leading the Stingrays to the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Wadena, Saskatchewan native appeared in six games with Hershey this season, notching three assists and a rating of +5.
South Carolina's 2016-17 season opens in October.
