D-Fenders Victorious over Stampede in Season Opener

EL SEGUNDO - The Los Angeles D-Fenders opened their 2012-13 season with a 112-98 victory over the Idaho Stampede on Wednesday night at Toyota Sports Center. Guided by new head coach Reggie Theus, the D-Fenders limited the Stampede to just 35.4 percent shooting to improve to 5-1 overall in regular season openers.

Lakers assignee Darius Johnson-Odom totaled a game-high 30 points (11-15 FG, 5-7 3FG), six rebounds and four assists, Orien Greene tallied 25 points (10-16 FG), four rebounds and three assists, and Gary Flowers pitched in 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks off the bench for the D-Fenders (1-0). Additionally, Courtney Fortson (14 points, 7 assists), Robert Sacre (10 points, 13 rebounds), who was assigned from the Lakers earlier today, and Jarrid Famous (10 points, 8 rebounds) all registered double-digit scoring efforts in the win.

The Stampede (0-1) were paced by Durrell Summers (21 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals), Justin Harper (18 points, 4 rebounds), and Justin Holiday (15 points, 6 rebounds) in their season opening contest. Meanwhile, Sean Evans added 11 points, a game-high 14 rebounds and two blocks, former D-Fender and Laker player Coby Karl recorded 10 points and six assists, and Jai Lucas posted 10 points and five assists in the loss.

Tonight's win marked the third consecutive victory and the sixth win in seven games (dating back to January 14, 2012) for Los Angeles over Idaho.

The D-Fenders next embark on a three-game road trip beginning this Friday that includes games against Maine, Springfield and Bakersfield before returning home on December 7th. Tip-off for the game on Friday versus Maine is slated for 7 pm ET. Follow all the action live online on www.d-league.com.
