KINGSPORT, Tenn.- Johnson City made it two wins in-a-row over Kingsport Tuesday afternoon after utilizing a three-run first inning to their advantage in a 4-2 victory over the K-Mets in the lone day game of the 2017 season at Hunter Wright Stadium.

The Red Birds tallied four runs off 11 hits during the win despite committing three errors in the field defensively over the course of the nine-inning affair. Kingsport, on the other hand, experienced its second-consecutive game where the bats went cold offensively, finishing with only two runs off nine hits with zero errors.

The scoring began in the first inning for the Cardinals (4-2) as the club tallied three runs off three hits to begin the day. RBI singles from Julio Rodriguez and Walker Robbins sandwiched a sacrifice fly from Luis Bandes as Johnson City scored three-consecutive runs thanks to their 6-8 hitters in the lineup.

Already leading by three runs, the Red Birds looked to add to its lead in the second inning as the first two batters reached with singles, but a 6-3 double play turned by Kingsport (3-2) short stop Edgardo Fermin put two quick outs on the board and aided in a scoreless second for starter Garrison Bryant (0-1).

Bryant cruised through innings three-five retiring a game-high five batters in a row at one point while piling on five strikeouts in the process. Following his departure, Ronald Sanchez pitched innings six and seven and surrendered the fourth run of the day to the Cards in the seventh thanks to a sacrifice fly off the bat of Jonathan Rivera .

Leading 4-0 through seven and a half, Kingsport finally got on the board with a two-run home run to left-center field, curtesy of Anthony Dirocie . The bomb was the second home run of the season for the center fielder as it drove in Rigoberto Terrazas who reached on a throwing error to lead off the inning.

The scoring halted there, however, as the 4-2 score held true by game's end.

Kingsport had its chances throughout offensively but left seven men on the base paths on the game. In seven of the nine innings, the K-Mets' leadoff batter reached base. Only once did they come around to score and that was Terrazas on the two-run Dirocie home run in the eighth inning.

Wagner Lagrange and Dionis Paulino were the lone Kingsport Mets to deliver multi-hit days as the duo each finished the contest with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate. For Johnson City, three players recorded multiple hits as Wadye Ynfante, and Julio Rodriguez tallied three hits apiece.

The bottom portion of the Cards' lineup proved beneficial Tuesday afternoon as Rodriguez, Bandes, Robbins and Rivera all tallied an RBI in the win.

Though Jacob Schlesener was impressive in the start, the second-year pro did not pick up the win on the day for Johnson City as the southpaw tossed 4 2/3 inning of scoreless baseball with four strikeouts. Brett Seeburger (1-0), who came on to pick up the final out in the bottom of the fifth inning for Schlesener, received the win after combining to go 2 1/3 innings without allowing a run.

Thomas St. Clair (S, 1) tallied his first-career save after pitching a scoreless ninth dispite allowing one hit.

Bryant was charged with the loss for Kingsport despite finishing strong. The three-hit, three-run Cardinal effort in the first inning against Bryant set the tone for the afternoon where Kingsport's bats failed to answer.
