(EASTLAKE, OH) - The Midwest League and the Lake County Captains, class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, have announced that Captains outfielder Conner Capel has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the week of May 29 - June 4. Capel is the first Captains player to win the award this season.

Over the past week, Capel, 20, batted .480 in seven games. The Katy, TX native was 12-for-25 with two doubles, one triple, three home runs and eight runs batted in. Capel, who was a fifth-round pick of the Indians in the 2016 MLB Draft, also scored eight runs, worked six walks, and stole one base.

Capel's numbers were not just the best in the Midwest League, they were tops among all Class-A ballplayers this week. The left-handed hitter posted 25 total bases and a 1.581 OPS. Both were the highest marks among all Class-A hitters from May 29 - June 4.

Capel earned the Midwest League's top honors this week, but he has been dynamic since the middle of May. Since May 17, Capel has hit eight home runs and batted .313 in 18 games. Prior to that, Capel had homered once in 35 games and was hitting .183.

Individual game tickets for all Captains games are on sale at the Classic Park box office, online at captainsbaseball.com and by phone at 440-954-WINS
