Bulls Hand Drive Third Straight Loss

March 3, 2017 - NBA G League (G League)
Grand Rapids Drive News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES- The Windy City Bulls (17-20) scored 71 points in the first half to defeat the Grand Rapids Drive (20-20) at home on Friday night by a 125-117 final. The Drive lost their third game in a row, falling further from the final wild card playoff spot in the East.

Both teams got off to an explosive start offensively, with the score tied at 40 at the end of the first quarter. Windy City made their biggest push in the second quarter, outscoring the Drive 31-20. The Bulls never trailed after erasing a five-point Grand Rapids lead early in the second, and held off a late push to get the victory.

Six players scored at least 13 points for the Bulls, with Jarrell Eddie leading the way with 19 points and eight rebounds. Will Bynum had a big double-double as the floor general with 16 points and 13 assists and Wesley Saunders also picked up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Jordan Crawford led the Drive in scoring for the second consecutive game, pouring in 31 points. Kevin Murphy had 20 points and 11 rebounds and Lorenzo Brown, in his season debut for the Drive coming over from China, also had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Grand Rapids notched a season-high in rebounds by pulling down 63 of them to 50 for Windy City, but they were again plagued by poor shooting for the fourth straight game. They shot 35 percent from the field while the Bulls were able to convert 43 percent of their field goals. Crawford was the only Drive player with at least 5 field goal attempts who hit at least half of his shots.

Windy City also featured crisper ball movement, registering 25 assists to 14 for Grand Rapids and turning the ball over just seven times while the Drive coughed up 17 turnovers. Drive guard Ray McCallum had 18 points, nine rebounds and five assists, but uncharacteristically turned the ball over five times.

Both teams play again tomorrow. The Bulls, now winners of three in a row, host the Sioux Falls Skyforce, and the Drive, who started a four-game road trip with this game, travel to Greensboro to take on the Swarm.
