Boston Lobsters Announce Roster Changes
July 20, 2015 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
Boston Lobsters News Release
The Boston Lobsters' Eugenie Bouchard has withdrawn from the Mylan World TeamTennis season with an injury. Bouchard, who was scheduled to play three matches for the Lobsters, suffered an abdominal strain before Wimbledon which has not healed enough for her to take to the court.
"I am disappointed that I won't be able to join my Boston Lobsters teammates and play Mylan World TeamTennis this summer. Best of luck to the Lobsters as they race for a spot in the Playoffs," said Bouchard.
CoCo Vandeweghe, who reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last week, was added to the Philadelphia Freedoms roster that will take on the Lobsters on July 27. Vandeweghe, who is ranked No. 32 in the world, previously played two full seasons for the Boston Lobsters before joining the Freedoms this year as a substitute player.
Tim Smyczek, a rising American star ranked No. 75 in the world, joins the Lobsters roster from July 21-23 for three matches, replacing Alex Kuznetsov in the lineup. Smyczek reached the third round of the US Open in 2013 and lost to Rafael Nadal 7-5 in the fifth set in the second round of the Australian Open this year, but not before gaining worldwide attention for his sportsmanship after allowing his opponent to redo a serve at a crucial time when Nadal was disturbed by a fan in the stands. He reached a career-high ranking of No.68 in the world in April of this year.
