Peoria Rough Riders News Release

Peoria Rough Riders Head Coach/Director of Football Operations Chuck Goodwin announced at the team's press conference the signing of QB Matt Schabert, WR Ashlee Frazier, and FB/LB Darius Green to the team's 2006 roster.

Matt Schabert will follow in the footsteps of former great Peoria quarterbacks Johnny Johnson, Gary Porter, and Walter Church as the Rough Riders' signal caller in 2006. Schabert, a former Big Ten Quarterback who transferred to Eastern Illinois in 2004, will be entering his first professional season. In his only season as Panther quarterback, Matt threw for 2771 yards and 15 touchdowns earning 2nd team All-Ohio Valley Conference honors. Schabert might be best known for leading the Badgers to an upset victory in 2003 over the then 3rd ranked and defending National Champion Ohio State Buckeyes. Schabert, a product of Larkin High School in Elgin, IL, is listed in the top twenty-five of six passing categories in the Illinois High School Association record books.

Catching passes from Schabert will be former Western Illinois Leatherneck Ashlee Frazier. Frazier, a 5'7" 173 lbs. Wide receiver from Chicago, was a walk on at WIU who earned a full schoarlship. Ashlee was named Gateway Football Conference All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2000. That season he led the conference with 54 punt returns for 454 yards. Frazier has spent the last five seasons as a member of the Chicago Thunder. Ashlee's work has not been limited to just the outdoor football field. He has done motion work for the video game "NFL Blitz" in the past including touchdown dances and wide receivers and running back motions.

Peoria Native and Peoria High School graduate Darius Green was also signed by the Peoria Rough Riders. Green was a high school All-American for the Lions and was a two-time Mid State 6 All-Conference performer. Green Continued his football career at NAIA McKendree College in Lebanon,IL. While playing linebacker for the Bearcats, Darius earned All-Conference and All-American honors three times. He was also named National Defensive Player of the Week twice.

First year Head Coach Chuck Goodwin is very excited about the upcoming season. "The three things I wanted to do when I took over as head coach was to sign an arena style quarterback with a quick release, get more speed at the skills position, and most importantly add a hometown hero that the community can cheer for. With these three singings we have accomplished those goals."

The Peoria Rough Riders will be entering their second season in the United Indoor Football League and their eighth season overall in indoor/arena football. Season tickets are on sale now and start at $40. Call 637-7777 or log on to www.peoriaroughriders.com for more information.
