Alaska Wild News Release
The Wild showed sign of life against the Colorado Ice this past Saturday as Coach Hernandez led the Wild to its most offensive output of the season. The Wild removed Floyd Johnson from the head coaching position after an 0-8 start and named Quarterbacks' Coach Sonny Rodriguez as the interim head coach. Due to a prior military commitment Coach Rodriguez couldn't travel, which left Coach Hernandez who is the defensive coordinator to run both sides of the ball.
The Wild totaled close to 300 yards in offense, but weren't able to finish off a couple drives and had some costly turnovers that changed the momentum of the game. Quarterback Jamie Williamson had a solid game, throwing for 282 yards and 4 touchdowns. Other contributors on offense were Solomon Jones who had 8 catches with 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, but yet again Demarcus James stole the show running back another kickoff return for a touchdown. His 7th of the year and he also made his debut on offense catching 5 passes for 53 yards.
The Wild defense held the Ice to 200 yards in total offense, but was always playing against a short field due to special teams play. "I feel good about what we did on offense and I know we can only get better from here," Stated Coach Hernandez. Now the Wild will test its new offensive approach against the Rochester Raiders who are the number two defense in the IFL.
Alaska Wild players' standout against number one team in the league
The Alaska Wild got off to a fast start in Thursday nights game against the Billings Outlaws as Demarcus James returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown to give the Wild a 6-0 lead. The Wild kept it close for a quarter, but the Outlaws took advantage of the Wild offensive miscues and took a halftime lead of 38-12. The Wild showed some fight as they battled the Outlaws all the way through the game. Other bright spots for the Wild was Jamie "Slash" Williamson who caught 5 passes for 56 yards and 1 touchdown. Player of the game, Paul Mosley played Iron man football; playing on both sides of the ball, he had 4 solo and 2 assisted tackles.
