Indoor Football League Week 14 Preview

June 9, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

THURSDAY, JUNE 11 - ROCHESTER RAIDERS (5-4) @ ALASKA WILD (0-9), 7:05 PM

The Raiders make the cross country journey to Anchorage to take on the Wild in a rare Thursday night battle. Rochester clinched a spot in the playoffs last weekend after holding off the Fairbanks Grizzlies by 2 points. In that game, star RB Jamil Porter rushed for 72 yards and two scores, while also catching 2 balls for 27 yards and another touchdown.

Alaska has had a bit a tough luck this season but the team, like true athletes, has not given up. Armed with a new coaching regime for the rest of the season, the Wild hope to build a solid foundation heading into the off-season. KR Demarcus James returned his 7th kick return for a touchdown last week.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - RIVERCITY RAGE (8-3) @ BLOOMINGTON EXTREME (8-4), 7:00 PM

The IFL Game of the Week pits two teams who are both second place in their division against each other. The Rage and Extreme both tout defensive units that are amongst the best in the league. The game should come down to whose offense can outplay the other. The third (RIV) and fourth (BLO) ranked defenses in the IFL are both giving up less then 33 points per game. Rage linebacker Joe Bevis is one of the top tacklers in the IFL this season averaging over 6.5 per game. The trio of Laroche Jackson, Etrich Pruitt, and James Temple have a combined 22 INT's for Bloomington. Don't look for this game to be a high scoring affair.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - EL PASO GENERALS (7-2) @ COLORADO ICE (5-6), 7:00 PM

The Generals hit the road for the first time in three weeks to square off against the Colorado Ice. This will be a big change of pace for El Paso, as they have only faced Abilene or San Angelo in their last five games. A win would put the new franchise into the playoffs. QB Tommy Jones leads the IFL in passing yards per game with 225.

After a short mid-season slump, the Ice are back on track winning their last two games. They hope to carry this momentum they have built into the 2009 playoffs. A lot of their success has to do with the renewed faith in the running game. Last week Maurice Cantrell ran for 74 yards and 4 TD's.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - MUSKEGON THUNDER (1-11) @ MARYLAND MANIACS (9-2), 7:00 PM

The Thunder make their second trip to Maryland in three weeks in hopes of spoiling the Maniacs bid for the top spot in the Atlantic Division. Even though they dropped the contest last week against RiverCity, the Thunder seem to have found an answer at QB. Buddy Rivera threw for 175 yards and a score, while also being a threat on the ground with 18 rushing yards and a score.

It wasn't easy, but Maryland managed to win their ninth game in a row last weekend by defeating Saginaw. The game came down to the final eight seconds, as RB/WR Terry Moss ran 34 yards for a TD to help the Maniacs edge the Sting by one point. They hope to make in ten in a row this weekend.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - OMAHA BEEF (8-2) @ WICHITA WILD (5-6), 7:05 PM

The Wild host the Beef in a Week 1 rematch between the two division rivals. Omaha has won seven straight games, and have already clinched a berth in the post-season, but are hoping to hold off the Extreme for the top spot in the Central. QB James McNear and RB R.J. Rollins have combined for 23 rushing touchdowns

The Wild are coming off a heartbreaking loss to Bloomington last week, but still have a grasp on the final playoff spot in the Division. One of the reasons to the Wild success has been the rushing efforts of Darius Fudge. Last week the RB ran for 112 yards and three touchdowns.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - CORPUS CHRISTI HAMMERHEADS (4-6) @ SAN ANGELO STAMPEDE EXPRESS (3-6), 7:05 PM

The Hammerheads and Stampede Express are no strangers to each other and face off once again in this division rivalry. Corpus Christi took for a 0.5 game lead on San Angelo for third place in the Lone Star with their win last week against Odessa. In the game, DB Jason Lee ran back an INT for a TD and contributed 5 tackles, one of which was for a loss of 22 yards.

The Stampede Express look to snap their two game losing streak and reclaim their third place spot in the division. They won the last meeting between the two teams three weeks ago 52-50. Since taking over the helm at QB, Sonny Cumbie has averaged 208 yards passing per game with 22 TD's.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 - FAIRBANKS GRIZZLIES (5-5) @ SIOUX CITY BANDITS (2-8), 7:05 PM

The Grizzlies head to Iowa to face the Sioux City Bandits. Fairbanks fell just short of tying Rochester last week in the final seconds, but was unable to convert on a two point conversion. Denny Kimmel had another standout performance in that game however. The RB rushed eight times for 88 yards and a score. The Grizzlies have a ½ game lead on the Ice for 2nd in the Pacific.

The Bandits are coming off a hard fought and close battle with the Central Division leading Beef. In that game, Buddy and Ernest Williams combined for 12 tackles and an Interception. With another strong defensive performance like last week, the Grizzlies will be in for a tough game.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 -BILLINGS OUTLAWS (10-1) @ SIOUX FALLS STORM (4-7), 7:05 PM

Billings heads to Sioux Falls for game 2 of a home and home series between the two teams. The Outlaws and their potent offense had perhaps their best game of the season last week thanks to the arm of QB Chris Dixon. The Outlaw gunslinger threw for 187 yards and seven touchdown passes to go along with 52 yards rushing and another score.

The Storm welcome the chance to get the IFL's top team on their home turf this weekend and hope for a little revenge. A win would be huge for Sioux Falls who sit just one game behind Wichita for the final playoff spot in the Central Division. Look for this game to be another high-scoring affair.

SATURDAY, JUNE 13 -ABILENE RUFF RIDERS (5-4) @ ODESSA ROUGHNECKS (2-8), 7:11 PM

Another Lone Star Division match-up has Abilene making the trip to Odessa. The Ruff Riders are well rested coming off their bye week. They hope the time was able to nurse the injury suffered by Quincy Carter a few weeks ago. The Abilene QB averages close to 200 yards passing per game, and has thrown for 38 TD's on the season

The Roughnecks record doesn't tell the whole story on their season. Many of their losses have come in very close contests. They hope to get over that hump, and slay the Ruff Riders thins weekend on their home turf. Look for WR Jimmy Conner, the IFL's receiving leader, to have a big game this week.
