Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

Charleston, WV - The West Virginia Power split a double header with the Hagerstown Suns on Friday. The Power took game one 2-1 and dropped the second 5-2.

In game one, West Virginia and starter James Marvel surrendered an early lead. Hagerstown's Daniel Johnson homered in the first inning for his team-leading tenth long ball of the season. The solo shot would be the only offense the Suns gathered in the first game.

Power responded in the third. Clark Eagan began the frame with a single. After a passed ball and a sacrifice bunt, Adrian Valerio drove him in to tie the game. Valerio stole and took third on a throwing error. Ty Moore would drive him home as the eventual decisive run. Power led 2-1 after three.

Power held on for the win. Luis Escobar (4-2) pitched one inning and was given the victory in relief. Sterling Sharp (2-3) took the loss as Matt Frawley locked down his first save of the year.

In game two, the Power sent Oddy Nunez to the mound who found struggles in the first. A leadoff double, followed by a walk brought up Sheldon Neuse. Neuse knocked his fifth home run of the season and the Suns had a 3-0 lead three batters into game two. After the homer, Nunez settled down in a big way. The left-hander retired the next twelve in a row to finish off his four innings.

West Virginia put a two spot up in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff solo home run for Carlos Munoz put the Power on the board against A.J. Boguki. Brent Gibbs doubled and came home two groundouts later.

The Power offense fell quiet. Hagerstown added a lone run in the sixth and another in the seventh on a home run as the Suns and West Virginia eventually split the double header. The visitors took game two 5-2. Oddy Nunez (0-4) was handed the loss while Hayden Howard (2-0) garnered the win.

Power send Blake Cederlind (2-0) to the bump for game three on Saturday. He will face McKenzie Mills (4-2). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 P.M. for Redneck Night VI. Tickets and information available online or at the Power Box Office.
