STINGRAYS WEEKLY REPORT - MARCH 27

Three wins during a four-game week have moved the South Carolina Stingrays into fourth place in the South Division with two weeks and six games remaining in the 2016-17 ECHL regular season. The Stingrays, who control their own playoff destiny, elevated themselves with a three-game sweep in a series against the Atlanta Gladiators with victories by 5-2, 4-2 and 5-3 scores. South Carolina was unable to finish off the perfect week on Sunday, dropping an afternoon contest 4-1 in their only meeting of the year against the Indy Fuel.

The Stingrays will stay in North Charleston this week for three home contests, beginning Tuesday night when they battle the Greenville Swamp Rabbits for their final meeting of the season. Then the Orlando Solar Bears come to town for two games over the weekend on Friday night and Sunday afternoon.

WEDNESDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 5, ATLANTA GLADIATORS 2

(Infinite Energy Center - Duluth, GA)

The Stingrays scored three unanswered goals in the third period to defeat the Atlanta Gladiators by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday night at the Infinite Energy Center. Derek Arnold scored his first goal as a member of the Stingrays and added an assist, while Marcus Perrier had two helpers and goaltender Parker Milner picked up the win with 24 saves.

FRIDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 4, ATLANTA GLADIATORS 2

(North Charleston Coliseum - North Charleston, SC)

South Carolina never trailed and got goals from four different scorers in a 4-2 victory over the Atlanta Gladiators on Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. In their third consecutive victory, the Stingrays saw multi-point nights from defenseman Max Nicastro who had a goal and an assist, and both Steven McParland and Cody Corbett who each tallied two assists. Goaltender Parker Milner shut the door in the third period, making 20 saves for his 22nd win of the season.

SATURDAY: SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 5, ATLANTA GLADIATORS 3

(North Charleston Coliseum - North Charleston, SC)

The Stingrays won their fourth consecutive game and finished a 3-night sweep of the Atlanta Gladiators, defeating their divisional opponents 5-3 on Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Three SC skaters notched two points in the contest including Derek Arnold who tallied a goal and an assist, along with Olivier Archambault and Steven McParland who each picked up two assists.

SUNDAY: INDY FUEL 4, SOUTH CAROLINA STINGRAYS 1

(North Charleston Coliseum - North Charleston, SC)

Goaltender Jake Hildebrand led the Indy Fuel to a 4-1 victory over the South Carolina Stingrays on Sunday afternoon at the North Charleston Coliseum, making a total of 43 saves. Andrew Cherniwchan scored the only goal of the game for the Stingrays, while Adam Carlson got the start in goal and stopped 20 shots for South Carolina in the loss.

SPRINT TO THE FINISH

The Stingrays have just six games left on their 2016-17 schedule, all coming against South Division opponents. After hosting Greenville on Tuesday and two games with Orlando this weekend, South Carolina will make one more trip to Atlanta next Wednesday before hosting the Gladiators and Cincinnati Cyclones April 7-8. The Rays control their own destiny as they attempt to qualify for the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs and currently hold the final spot, with a fourth place standing in the division.

MCPARLAND'S SEASON-HIGH STREAK ENDS AT 10 GAMES

Forward Steven McParland's longest point-scoring streak of the season ended at 10 games Sunday when he was held off the scoresheet by the Indy Fuel. The streak was the second-longest active run in the ECHL at the time of its demise and saw McParland notch 13 points (five goals, eight assists) from Feb. 27 through March 25. The Schreiber, Ont. native has 47 points (19 goals, 28 assists) in 56 ECHL games this year and totaled five assists in the four Stingrays games last week.

MILNER TAKES OVER IN NET

After returning from a call-up with the AHL's Hershey Bears, goaltender Parker Milner made nine consecutive starts for the Stingrays between March 1-25 and posted a record of 6-3-0 to help South Carolina keep things tight in the race for the postseason. Milner has racked up 23 wins on the year, including four straight victories, which is sixth best in the ECHL. He has also earned a goals against average of 2.73 during a total of 38 appearances with the club this year.

COUNT ON CORBETT

Defenseman Cody Corbett has been a big addition to the Stingrays since he was reassigned to South Carolina earlier in the month. The blueliner has earned four assists in five games with Rays along with a +3 rating and 17 shots on net while playing on a pairing with Joey Leach. Corbett, who is in his third professional season, was acquired by the Washington Capitals in a trade on March 1.
