Blades Strike Gold
September 26, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Saskatoon Blades News Release
With over 4500 fans in attendance for the Blades 52nd season, the crowd was in for a real treat. With everyone back and in full force, the Blades were ready to show their full potential.
The first line of Hebig, Graham and Gay were the story tonight. After their success in the pre-season, the question was can they carry that over into the regular season? I think having a combined 10 points in your first regular season game answers the question.
Graham finished with a goal and an assist. Hebig with a goal and three helpers and Connor Gay with two goals and two assists.
The line already shows signs of being a very dangerous threat early on in the season.
"Couldn't feel much better honestly. 20 year old as a Blade at home and being able to get the two points. The points were just a bonus but being able to get the two points here and get the season rolling is a pretty good feeling." Connor Gay on his efforts tonight.
"There there a dangerous group. All three of them can score and they're tough to play against. They got pretty good experience in this league which is valuable and we'll lean on them a lot this year." Added Bob Woods on the teams first line.
With 10 different players on the score sheet tonight, Head Coach Bob Woods knows that if they want wins this year, it's going to have to be an effort via committee. "That's going to be us. We have to have everybody going. We're still not deep enough to depend on certain guys and we just have to make sure that everybody's contributing."
The Raiders however will have a chance at revenge at their home opener tomorrow night at the Art Hauser Centre and Bob Woods emphasizes how tomorrow will be a much different Raiders team. "I know they'll be a lot tougher tomorrow, it's always tough in that building and it's going to take a big effort to come out of there with two points."
