Calgary Stampeders News Release
The reigning Grey Cup champions will attempt to show their skills in a different sport as they launch another season of Stampeders basketball.
This year's schedule features six stops and kicks off with a March 11 visit to Captain Nichola Goddard School in Panorama Hills. For nearly a quarter-century, Stampeders players, staff and alumni have been visiting local schools to play a friendly game of hoops.
"The guys are really looking forward to getting out to schools and having some fun in the gym," said receiver Jabari Arthur, who is serving as this year's Stamps basketball team captain. "Basketball is a great program and it's a lot of fun for both the students and the Stampeders players."
In addition to Arthur, some of the expected regular members of the Red and White's hoops squad include Bo Levi Mitchell, Rene Paredes, Rob Maver, Keon Raymond, Rob Cote and Adam Thibault. In addition, Mark Stephen - the voice of the Stampeders - will appear at select schools to do introductions and provide live play-by-play.
Here is this season's slate of games:
Wednesday, Mar. 11 (noon) - Captain Nichola Goddard School
Friday, Mar. 13 (11:30 a.m.) - Langdon School
Monday, Mar. 16 (1:30 p.m.) - West Island College
Thursday, Mar. 19 (11:30 a.m) - Mountain Park School
