Westchester Knicks News Release
SANTA CRUZ, January 19, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks (8-16) fell 101-96 to the Oklahoma City Blue (14-10) in both teams' second and final match-up at the 2015 NBA D-League Showcase.
The Blue kept Westchester at bay going on a 7-0 run to start the game until Thanasis Antetokounmpo drained two free throws to put the Knicks on the board with 9:15 on the clock. Both teams struggled to find their shots, the Blue hitting 8 of 22, the Knicks hitting 8 of 23. Oklahoma City led the entire quarter until Knicks guard Andre Barrett lobbed in a layup with 1.9 seconds to go to push Westchester over the edge at the end of the first, the score 19-18.
Both teams found their footing in the second quarter, the Blue securing 20 points in the paint and the Knicks hitting 50 percent of their field goal attempts. With nine lead changes and five times tied, neither team led by more than six points in the second quarter. The Blue headed into the locker room with the lead 46-43 after a last second layup from Marquis Teague.
With both sides gunning to take the prime spot, neither team let the lead slide past four points in the third quarter. Westchester supplied 10 points off the bench with guard Marcus Ginyard continuing to impress from the paint, sinking 7-of-8 in the first three quarters. Talib Zanna hit a double-double in the third to help the Blue's cause and the teams headed into the final twelve minutes with the score tied at 71.
Westchester found themselves unable to score for almost two minutes in the latter half of the fourth, with the Blue driving the lead to nine points with just under a minute to go. Despite a driving layup from Ron Anderson Jr. followed by a floater from Andre Barrett, the Knicks found themselves on the wrong side of the contest as the Blue would ultimately get the win.
The Westchester Knicks were paced by Thanasis Antetokounmpo who netted 19 points, adding five rebounds, five steals, and three blocked shots. Andre Barrett finished with 17 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. Marcus Ginyard connected on 7-of-9 field goal attempts, ending with 15 points and also tallied three steals.
Marquis Teague ran the show for Oklahoma City Blue off the bench, dropping 19 points and six assists. Mario Little and Talib Zanna both contributed 18 points, Zanna recording a double-double with the addition of 14 rebounds.
The Westchester Knicks will travel to face the Erie BayHawks next on Friday, January 23 for a 7:00 p.m. ET match-up before returning home to play the Texas Legends on Saturday, January 24. The contest Friday night at Erie will be broadcast live on MSG Network.
