Mexican National Team Returns to Bay Area for First-Ever International Match

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Mexican National Team returns to the U.S. this September for two key games during a FIFA fixture window that will help shape the team's roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup and Copa America tournaments.

The Federacion Mexicana de Futbol (FMF) and Soccer United Marketing (SUM) today announced that the Mexican National Team will face World Cup standout Chile on Saturday, Sept. 6 (7 p.m. PT) in the first-ever international soccer game at the new Levi's(r) Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. Three days later on Tuesday, Sept. 9, Mexico will take on Bolivia at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. (7 p.m. PT). Given the FIFA fixture window, top stars for Mexico and its opponents are expected to participate.

Earthquakes season ticket holders will have access to a special pre-sale starting on today at 10 a.m. PT. Visa accountholders will have access to another pre-sale beginning Thursday, July 31 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, Aug. 1 at 10:00 a.m. local time and will be available via Ticketmaster.com or by calling 1-800-745-3000. The upcoming matches at Levi's(r) Stadium - the new home of the San Francisco 49ers - and Dick's Sporting Goods Park, home of MLS' Colorado Rapids, will be Mexico's first matches in the U.S. after its run into the Round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The next few months of the 2014 calendar year will be key as Herrera will use these international matches to begin preparations for upcoming tournaments such as the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico last won in 2011, as well as the 2015 Copa America, which will be held in Chile next summer.

Mexico vs. Chile - Levi's(r) Stadium - September 6

Mexico's game against 12th ranked Chile will mark the first international soccer match at the new state-of-the-art home of the NFL's San Francisco 49ers. El Tricolor last visited the Bay Area in 2013, playing Peru to a 0-0 draw at Candlestick Park.

The September 6 match between Mexico and Chile at Levi's(r) Stadium will be the 27th contest between the two 2014 World Cup participants. Mexico holds the all-time record over the 2015 Copa America hosts with 14 wins, 10 losses and two draws. The last time Mexico and Chile faced each other was in September 2011 when El Tricolor defeated Chile by a score of 1-0 with a goal from Andres Guardado. Both teams were eliminated from the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil in the Round of 16, Mexico losing to the Netherlands while Chile lost to Brazil in penalty kicks.

Mexico vs. Bolivia - Dick's Sporting Goods Park - September 9

Mexico and Bolivia have met a total of ten times with an 8-1-1 record in favor of Mexico. The two teams last met in February of 2010 at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, with the match ending 5-0 in favor of Mexico. Bolivia finished in eighth place during the 2014 World Cup qualification (CONMEBOL) and their last appearance at a World Cup came in 1994 when the United States hosted the tournament.

This will be Mexico's third visit to the scenic Dick's Sporting Goods Park, which has hosted a number of memorable international matches, including the US national team's World Cup qualifier against Costa Rica played under snow.
