Suns Stay Atop Western Division With Help From Tyler

The Pittsfield Suns defeated the Eastern Division leader, Brockton Rox, by a score of 5-2, Friday evening before a crowd of 2,434 fans at Wahconah Park. Tyler Bell had two extra base hits to plate two of the Suns five runs.

The Rox were the first on the scoreboard in the first inning. After a strikeout, Jake Willsey would reach first after an error by the Pittsfield shortstop. Suns starter Jamin McCann threw a rare wild pitch to advance the runner to third before Tom Stoffel tripled to plate Willsey. Zach Short would then pop up to center field, allowing Stoffel to score from third, and giving Brockton an early 2-0 lead.

The lead would not last long as the Suns evened the score in the bottom of the frame, With two outs, Rox starter Jon Pusateri would walk Jeff McGarry and peg Dan Palazzo with a pitch before issuing a bases loading walk to Steve Dill. Zach Tower then smacked a two RBI double, tying the game.

The Suns would move ahead in the third and wouldn't look back. Bell tripled before Rox pitching would throw another wild pitch to plate the runner, to give Pittsfield a 3-2 advantage.

Brockton would threaten in the eighth, but a spectacular throw from center field by Bell and tag by catcher, Dill would squelch that come back. The Suns added an additional two runs in the bottom of the inning as Bell hit a towering homerun to right field with a runner on base, to solidify a 5-2 Suns win.

McCann (6-0) was excellent yet again for Pittsfield, going seven innings, giving up four hits, two runs and three walks while striking out seven. Pusateri was relieved after only four innings, but would be charged with his fourth loss of the season.

The Suns are back at Wahconah Park tomorrow night at 7 PM to face the Wachsuett Dirt Dawgs. It is Legends at Wahconah Night tomorrow and the first 500 fans will receive a free bobble horse, thanks to Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, to celebrate the life of the Iron Horse himself, Lou Gehrig.
