
Stamps Donate Record Number of Coats

Thanks to the generosity of Stampeders fans, a record total of 4,088 coats has been collected in the 2013 Share the Warmth program to benefit the Salvation Army.
In addition the record number of jackets collected at the Oct. 11 home game against the BC Lions, at the Q107 donation box at Eau Claire Market and through local school initiatives, more than $1,900 in cash was donated.
"Once again, Stampeders fans have shown what big hearts they have and how much they care about their community," said Stampeders president Gordon Norrie. "Thank you to each and everyone of you for your generosity and for providing some warmth for someone in need this winter."
This year's contributions bring the all-time donation totals to nearly 14,000 coats and $27,000 in cash.
"The Salvation Army wishes to express its gratitude to the Calgary Stampeders, Calgary's Classic Rock Q107 and those who contributed to the Share the Warmth Coat Drive," said Captain Pam Goodyear, Divisional Secretarty of Public Relations & Development for The Salvation Army. "Because of your generosity, more than 4,000 people will be warmer this winter."
"We'll never forget the look on the faces of The Salvation Army volunteers as Stamps fans bombarded them with donations," said Sarah Crosbie from Q107's Jeff and Sarah Show. "We are truly thankful for the generosity we witnessed at McMahon. Stamps won, and Calgary won."
Stamps players including quarterback Drew Tate, who has been the team's representative for the Share the Warmth program for the past three years, will visit the Salvation Army Centre of Hope in the near future to help sort the jackets collected in this year's coat drive.
Fans still wishing to donate a jacket can do at the Centre of Hope (420 9th Ave. SE), the Family Resource Centre (1731 29th St. SW) or Community Support Services (1826 36th St. SE).
The Stampeders' next home action comes on Saturday, Oct. 26 when Calgary hosts the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the annual PinkPower game. Kickoff at McMahon Stadium is at 5 p.m. and tickets are available at Stampeders.com.
