Kansas City Mavericks News Release

Independence, Missouri - The Missouri Mavericks announced Tuesday the Central Hockey League (CHL) team has signed forward Mike Ramsay and goaltender Shane Owen for the 2013-14 season. The Mavericks are currently at 10 players signed to their pre-season roster.

Ramsay, 28 (9/3/84), is a 5-foot-8, 185-pound forward playing in his eight season professionally. Last season the Newmarket, Ontario native played in Norway for the Sparta Sarpsborg and finished with 52 points (29-23=52) in 45 games. Prior to last season, Ramsay played for the Sheffield Steelers in England with current Mavericks forward, Colt King. While in Sheffield, Ramsay tallied 71 points (30-41=71) in 48 games played.

Ramsay spent four seasons (2006-07, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11) with the Odessa Jackalopes of the CHL where he totaled 235 points (103-132=235) in 245 games played. Ramsay is a former teammate of Head Coach Scott Hillman in the 2006-07 Jackalopes season as well as a former teammate of Sebastien Thinel in the 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.

"Mike Ramsay loves to shoot the puck. He will be a big boost to our powerplay and he has an incredible knack for scoring goals. He is an elite forward in the CHL and a great person and teammate," Hillman said. "He has an incredible work ethic and is very passionate about hockey. I have spoken to Mike for the last couple years and the timing was finally right to bring him to Missouri."

Owen, 23 (6/4/90), is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound goaltender from Markham, Ontario. Owen led Moncton to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Championship (QMJHL) and 2010 Memorial Cup going 14-3-0 with 2.12 Goals Against Average (GAA) and .925 save percentage in 18 games.

"Shane Owen is a big goalie that naturally covers a lot of net. We are excited to add him to next season's roster as we believe he has a bright future ahead of him," Hillman said. "He has been invited to attend the Chicago Wolves training camp and will report to Missouri following Wolves' camp. I will have a good opportunity to spend time with him in Chicago and he will benefit from their goaltending instruction much like former Mavericks Charlie Effinger and Mathieu Corbeil have over the past two seasons."

The Missouri Mavericks will host their fourth annual Fan Fest on Sat., Sept. 21 at Independence Events Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Mavericks will begin their fifth season of play in the CHL in October. Season tickets are on sale now. With season tickets starting at just over $11 per game and FREE parking, the Mavericks are the pinnacle of family affordable entertainment.
