Long Island Ducks News Release
(Central Islip, N.Y., June 11, 2013) - The Long Island Ducks defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 8-1 on Tuesday night in the first game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
Bridgeport jumped on the scoreboard in the third on Luis Rodriguez's solo home run to left-center field off Ducks starter Connor Graham. Long Island answered in the fourth when Bill Hall launched a three-run home run to left-center off Bluefish starter Kelvin Villa. A RBI single to right by Danny Perales in the fifth increased the lead to 4-1.
The Ducks inflated the lead to seven with a four-spot in the sixth inning. Sacrifice flies from Adam Bailey and Perales, an error which scored Joash Brodin and a wild pitch that plated P.J. Phillips did the damage.
Graham (3-3) got the win, tossing seven innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven. Villa (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering eight runs (six earned) on 10 hits and four walks with seven strikeouts in five and one-third innings.
Bryant Nelson led the Flock with three hits in the win while Ben Broussard and Ramon Castro each added two.
The Ducks and Bluefish continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. It's Lucky Seat Giveaway Night at the Duck Pond, presented by Plesser's. Every inning, Ducks staff members will be choosing a lucky seat throughout the ballpark. If that's your seat, you will be taking home an appliance or electronics prize, courtesy of Plesser's. Southpaw James Houser gets the start for the Ducks against Bluefish right-hander Josh Butler.
