San Rafael Pacifics News Release
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Fans are familiar with baseball's ceremonial first pitch. Well, the San Rafael Pacifics are taking that idea one step further. Bank of Marin President and CEO Russell A. Colombo has been signed to a unique and historic "one pitch" pitching contract, announced Pacifics President and General Manager Mike Shapiro.
Colombo's contract will begin and end on the Pacifics' Friday, June 14 game against the Vallejo Admirals. He will literally throw out the first pitch of the game.
"After a very difficult and protracted negotiation of about five minutes, I'm happy to say that Russ will be our starting pitcher on June 14," said Shapiro. "Unfortunately when we sat down with his agent and worked through the contract terms, it turned out that due to his rigid marathon training schedule, he is only allowed to throw one pitch."
Colombo, a right-hander and lifetime Marin County resident, has enjoyed a distinguished career as president and chief executive officer of the Bank of Marin since 2006, compiling an outstanding win/loss record and ERA in local banking circles.
"I'm thrilled to become a member of the Pacifics, even if it's for only one pitch," said Colombo. "I'll do all I can to be in top notch shape to throw my pitch and feel very confident it'll be a strike. Where it goes from there is anybody's guess."
First pitch - Colombo's only pitch - is slated for 7:05 p.m. The Pacifics are banking on it being a strike.
