
M-Braves Even Series, Defeat Suns

PEARL, MS -- The Mississippi Braves defeated the Jacksonville Suns 4-3 at Trustmark Park Monday night to even the series at two games apiece. The rubber match of the series is set for 7:00 PM Tuesday. With the win, the M-Braves take a game and a half lead over the Suns in the Southern League South Division.
Mississippi (27-17) scored four runs on seven hits while the Suns (24-17) plated three runs on eight hits. Both teams committed one error. Kyle Russell led the M-Braves with two RBIs on the night. Edward Salcedo scored two runs.
Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead in the third when Jake Marisnick walked and scored on a Kyle Jensen double to right field.
Kyle Russell launched a two-run home run off the batter's eye in center field to give the M-Braves a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. Edward Salcedo had reached on a single up the middle to start the frame.
Jacksonville's Mark Canha blasted a solo home run, his fourth long ball of the season, in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 2-2.
Jaime Pedroza walked and Jose Martinez singled to start the bottom of the seventh. Phil Gosselin followed with a single to right field, driving home Pedroza and giving the M-Braves a 3-2 lead.
The Suns responded in the top of the eighth. Kyle Jensen singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Ryan Fisher singled to put runners at the corners. J.T. Realmuto reached on a fielder's choice when Andrew Russell fielded and threw to second to start a double play. Pedroza dropped the ball, allowing everyone to reach safely including the tying run.
In the bottom of the eighth, Salcedo drew a two-out walk. Dan Brewer followed with a pinch-hit single to put runners at first and third. Pedroza then delivered a single to right field, driving in Salcedo and putting the M-Braves up 4-3.
Andrew Russell (2-0) picked up the win. He gave up one unearned run on two hits and recorded one strikeout. Mark Lamm (S, 4) came on in the ninth to record the save. He struck out Jake Marisnick to end the game. Grant Dayton (0-1) surrendered the loss, giving up one earned run on two hits and a walk.
Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision. Gus Schlosser went six innings for the M-Braves, giving up two earned runs on six hits, a homer and two walks. He struck out two batters. Robert Morey also tossed six innings for the Suns. He gave up two earned runs on three hits, a homer and two walks while striking out six batters.
In Tuesday night's series finale at Trustmark Park, M-Braves right-hander Aaron Northcraft (1-2, 4.11) counters Suns lefty Adam Conley (3-1, 4.62). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates open at 6:00 PM.
